A Life of Creativity
It's my goal to make something that you won't see anywhere else... to express a unique and creative vision that speaks to the dreams of grace and beauty that lie in every human.

Image of me working on jewelryI've always been pulled toward creative and artistic endeavors, but it took me until my late 30s to finally give in to them. As a child, I studied music (classical piano and organ) seriously and still find refuge and inspiration in it, with tastes that run the gamut from classical and jazz to classic rock and contemporary pop. In college, I began writing and literary analysis, which eventually somehow turned into a 20-year career in technical (computer) documentation, training, and teaching people how to use the developing Internet.

In the later years of that career, I began looking for other ways to express my creativity. I began painting and then started making jewelry. At first, I was self-taught, finding ideas in books and from observing the work of others. Most of what I was doing was wire-wrapping and bead-stringing, but I also began collecting gemstones.

Finally, I found a jewelrysmithing program at Bucks County Community College and began learning the "real" way to create jewelry -- soldering, fabricating, shaping, forging, and casting. I've taken many classes since then, as well as workshops from some of the "greats" in the jewelry arts world today.

I'm an avid reader and experimenter. The phrase "I wonder what would happen if..." is frequently heard in my workshop and often leads to some wonderful and innovative approaches to jewelrycraft.

I owe a lot to my fellow members of the online Orchid jewelry-smithing list, as well. This is a group of international folks, all working in various aspects of jewelrymaking, who are always willing to share ideas, pointers, sympathy, and advice. Over the years, I've learned so much from them and am proud to call them my online friends.

If you're interested in jewelry, it's worth adventuring into the world of Orchid -- www.ganoksin.com. It's free, open to the public, and one of the most welcoming spaces online!
