Revelations

About this piece

I love finding new ways of looking at the world. This series features unusual materials that most people would never regard as fine jewelry, revealed and elevated by their treatment here. A prime example is river-tumbled anthracite coal, into which is inlaid sterling silver and a tube-set white diamond. Other items feature sea glass or river pebbles, with inlaid gemstones.

Textures

About this piece
One of the joys in working with metal and stone is the wonderful textures that can emerge. This series explores texturing in new and exciting ways. For example, the outer texture of the metal might echo the inner texture of a stone; or the surface work on a piece may show a very strong and unusual patterning.

Sunbursts

About this piece
Sunburst, one of my newest series, is inspired by ancient artwork of the sun. Quiet greens contrast with sparkling silver, iridescent blues accent purple iolite, and rose-peach andalusites are echoed in golden peach patinas.

Celebrations

About this piece

Sometimes it's just necessary to sparkle! This series has a whimsical and glamorous feel that is perfect for dressing up and going out on the town, or for that special occasion when you want to make a real statement!

The stones themselves inspired the series, as I looked for ways to highlight the beautiful colors and ever-changing sparkle of drusy quartz. A relatively new discovery in the drusy field -- Titanium PVD drusy -- has enabled even more beauty and sparkle, as you can see in the Celebration Spiral and Spiral Dance #1 pendants.

Nature's Way

About this piece

One of my first inspirations is always Mother Nature. The variety of shapes, colors, and unexpected patterns never fails to amaze me. When I began designing jewelry, it felt very natural to look to leaves, twigs, seashells, and then to more complex objects in the world around me for design inspirations. In some cases, I\'ve begun with castings of interesting \"found shapes\"; in others, I\'ve used common archetypal shapes as a basis for the design.

Grunge

About this piece

I\'ve always loved the freedom of experimentation -- creating the unexpected in color, shape and texture. In sculpture, using traditional materials in unexpected ways can yield surprising and compelling results.

The Grunge series grew out of this type of experimentation with silver. Using both sterling (.925 pure) and fine (.999 pure) silver in tiny \"serendipitous\" shapes, I worked with fusing, heat texturing, and patinas to find each piece\'s unique beauty.

Each piece is completely unique and can never be exactly reproduced. They feature beautiful textures and shapes, accented with iridescent colors that surprise the eyes. When viewed in different light or from different angles, these pieces assume new characteristics. As a result, they can be worn casually or more formally.

ARTifacts

About this piece

The ARTifacts series was inspired by the works of the Dutch painters of the 16th Century, who frequently used copper rather than canvas or panel as their painting support. The vibrancy of color in the works that survive today are unparalleled.

A viewing of some of these works inspired me to think about this technique as a way to reconcile my love of painting in oils with my love of making jewelry -- creating unique little treasures, each of which is also an original oil painting.

Each painting is set in an individually crafted frame that is uniquely designed to complement that particular painting. The frames are designed to be removable by a jeweler, allowing for periodic cleaning of the silver if it becomes necessary.

The pieces are also designed for flexibility in presentation. Many have backings that enable easy conversion between pendant and pin, and some feature a "picture chain" bail to enable hanging them on a wall or in a shadowbox. The paintings (such as Still Life with Seashells) that are worn solely as pendants are designed with a double-bail so that the necklace lays flat against the skin without "flipping." This bail also threads the chain parallel to the top of the painting for an exceptionally attractive look.

Silver Sensations

About this piece

This series started as a way to feature silver mesh - a wonderful and fun material for jewelry. However, over time the series has evolved to include pieces that simply use un-patinaed silver in a variety of design ways. All are designed for fun and sparkle!
